  4. MAYO FACILITY IN WEST VALLEY TO STOP TAKING MEDICARE PAYMENTS by Sara Todd p1
There is a Mayo hospital in the west valley that is no longer taking Medicare payments. This could start a trend in the healthcare industry ; and it won't be a good trend. The Mayo facility that will be affected is called " Arrowhead Family Medicine." This policy will go into effect on January 1st, 2010. This will affect about 3,000 senior citizens. They will try this as an experiment for two years. Then they will evaluate and reassess the program, to see how it is working. I hope they find out it doesn't work, because senior citizens need to have good healthcare.

  5. PIG FARMERS FIGHT THE TERM 'SWINE' FLU by Joey House

Pig farmers want to stop use of the term swine flu. People think that pork and ham products will make them sick. The result is 1.5 billion dollars lost in the industry. Farmers are closing down because of loss of business in pork. Costs of necessities for pigs are rising. I think they should stop using the term swine flu so pork can recover from the past year.

  6. SWINE FLU by Sophia Barr
The word ''Swine" in ''Swine Flu'' doesn't mean that you could get it from a pig or from eating pork. The Federal Centers for Disease and Prevention has stated that the disease is IMPOSSIBLE to get from eating pork or standing near a pig. According to the National Pork Producers Council the pork industry has lost about $1.5 billion since the virus was first reported in April. The H1N1 has claimed about 4,000 lives this year in the U.S. In Egypt the government killed 300,000 pigs in the mistaken belief that the animals spread the disease. To help yourself stay healthy you should wash your hands often and not share food or drinks.

  7. TEENS ABUSING PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Richard Rosky was having a Q & A about how teens were abusing drugs. He told us that PRESCRIPTION drug abuse was growing unbelievably fast among teens in Arizona. He also said that on the second day confrence, attendees will talk about their parents that had deceased from the past because they had abused prescription drugs. As Richard Rosky explained to parents that they should watch for dramatic changes in teens, which should be abuse of drugs.
I chose this article because it seems to be a big problem already. Also I think this could change lives of many people including friends and family.

  10. CHIMP ATTACK by Jacob
It was a tragic day in the USA. A women was attacked by a chimpanzee. The chimp was going crazy. A woman was at her house when her friend called and said "can you help me my chimp is out of its cage." She went over to help her friend. But when she got there the chimp went crazy and cut her with knives, threw pots and pans at her, and made dressers fall on her. She was deformed. I think she shouldn't have gone over to her friends house to help and she wouldn't be in the mess.

  13. US TRIES NEW TACTIC AGAINST TALIBAN by Nicolas Gordon
The U.S Armed Forces, are trying a new strategy to achieve peace in Afghanistan, with the fighters, also know as the Taliban Insurgents. The plan is to reach out to the Insurgents from the Taliban, by giving them protection and jobs,to stop fighting. President Obama signed a bill that made funds available for this and a jobs program. This plan will go hand-and-hand with the presidents decision to send 30,000 new troops to the war Afghanistan war. I think this is a better decision than fighting because you have to think about how it effects the people of Afghanistan. War leads to more killing and retaliation by both sides. I hope this war concludes soon.

  14. Drug Smuggling
    by Riley 5C
Drug smuggling is becoming a major problem in Mexico and U.S.A. The United States have developed a program that allows trucking companys quick passage across the border. This has encouraged drug smuggling gangs to kill or bribe truck drivers so they can smuggle their drugs into the U.S.A. Of the few trucks that are checked, police have found amazing amounts of drugs, the majority being marijuana. I think this program is dangerous to the USA because it could allow the entire gang to get into the United States. I feel very strongly that this program should be stopped immediately.

  15. Has Over Parenting Gotten Way Out of Control? by, Darwin

Over parenting has gotten way out of control in the past generation.Parents have bought nacrobiotic cupcakes and hypoallergenic socks, hired tutors to correct a five year-olds "pencil holding defieiency," and took down the swing set after the second skinned knee, stores began selling locks for cabinets. They also sold kinder locks (which is basically a leash.)They also sold baby knee pads, like they don't already come pre-padded. The mayor of Connecticut town had to cut down three hickory trees on one block because a grandmother was afraid a stray nut might fall into her swimming pool where her nut allergic grandson swam.I think it is crazy to be that protective to any kid, you should let them have some freedom.

  20. TEMPLE TURMOIL by Samuel Gerkin P2

Many are argueing over whether or not a Morman temple will be built in North Phoenix. Critics of a Morman temple want to overturn the City Council decision to allow the temple. Supporters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints agreed with the decision. The church is now able to add ten feet to the temple, which is expected to begin by 2011. Opponents believe city leaders ignored their concerns. I think people should be allowed to vote on this.

There are a lot fabulous things to do in Arizona. Here are some things to do with your family. My first idea is to go to the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl has been open in Scottsdale since 1958! They have old fashioned food and ice cream treats. My second pick is a Hot Air Balloon ride. The desert is one of the best hot air ballooning places. Be adventurous try something daring! Want to keep your feet on the ground? Then take a train ride on the Grand Canyon Railway. The train will take you to one of the seven wonders of the world. Inside the train is set up like the old west. These are all great things to do, what do you want to try? I chose this because I thought it will give people something to do.

Pork producers are having a tough time this year. Because of the use swine flu there has been a big loss of money in the pork industry. Twenty-six countries temporarily banned the export from north America. Even though cooked and living pig is perfectly safe people were not buying it. Did you know that the true swine flu is completely harmless to the human body. It's the combinations of the swine flu, the bird flu and the regular flu that makes it bad for you. I agree with pork producers that pork is perfectly safe for you and that people should call it H1N1.

Pollution is part of the problem. The trees are dying and too many animas are over populating their habitats. The more animals, the mor animals die. My sollution to this problem is to gather some friends, buy some plants that are needed. Plant them in the natural habitats of the animal so they can live off those plants.

  75. THE THREE YEAR SOLUTION by Alyssa Krehbiel
In Hartwick college, they give well prepared students an offer:to earn your undergraduate degree in three years instead of four.A number of other college are making this same offer to students who are anxious to get a degree. You could also save a lot of money, you would save about $43,000! That is about one years tuition and fees. But sometimes the bosses and districts worry about if this program will fail."Nothing is more vulnerable then entrenched success,"says one of them. But so far, so good.I am positive that 5this will work.

The Salvation Army helps families and people to celebrate Christmas. For this year charity plans to provide children with presents, and adults with goody bags. They will be giving 5,200 hot meals to needy Valley residents on Dec.25. "If this program was not in place a lot of people would not be celebrating Christmas." said Major Guy Hawk who runs the South Mountain branch for the Salvation Army. Eighth Graders from Scottsdale Christian Acadamyy spent a morning printing names, ages and gender on tags. McKenna Butler said she liked making it possible for other kids to celebrate. I think the Salvation Army does a great job helping people. I would like to help the Salvation Army.

  79. Alot of smoking is going on in the U.S Army.Soldiers from the U.S Army are currently dying. Two reasons they are dying is because the soldiers around them are creating smoke clouds. The second reason is because the soldiers that are smoking are getting black lungs. What I think they should do about the smoking problem is they should get cameras and put them in the halls so when they see someone smoke they can do something about it.Stay healthy and make a better choice then the soldiers that smoke.

Happily only one was injured. He was teated at a local hospital. The rest of them escaped through a window that was broken. I for am very happy that not many people were injured.

  82. SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
At 12/10/09 the 10-1 Vikings face - off against the 7-4 Cardinals. The Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is expected to play as last week, it doesn't matter Warner or Leinart the Cardinals need to stop the Vikings pass rush. The rush game well be good against rookie ''Beanie'' Wells and Tim Hightower, screens and middle runs are expected. Also Warner should have some pass game with L. Fitzgerald , A. Boldin , and B. Breaston. The Vikings offense is different. With quarterback Brett Farve and Pro Bowl Adrian Peterson the Vikings may have some tricks. The Vikings need to stop pass rush with Darnell Docket to pass to Pro Bowl Visan Shiancoe. Bottom line the prediction says th Vikings win 27-24. But I think the Cardinals will take it home 23-14. With Pro Bowl L. Fizgerald,K. Warner,D.Docket and A.Boldin but the Vikings might have some tricks with Farve,Peterson and Shiancoe it should be a good game. Fortunately the Cardinals won 30-17 now they have a division lead in the play offs. Hopefully the Super Bowl!

  83. WHY SOME AMPHIBIANS ARE BECOMING EXTINCT By : Amanda Wiggins
According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature,
( IUCN ) 17,291 types of plants and animals are becoming extinct. Disappearing habitats is one huge reason for their loses. The Rabb's limed- tree frog is one of the many amphibians that are coming really close to becoming extinct, because of a deadly fungus that threatens their lives. The news isn't all bad though, some of the species have recovered thanks to conversation efforts. I think that is a good thing because no animal or creature deserves to die.

Michaele and Tareq entered the White house without an invitation, and the security thought that they were going to crash the presidents party. Right after Thanksgiving the news were running like crazy! I think they should put more security in the White house.

  86. Trek to the South Pole

Todd Carmicheal walked by himself to the south pole. The trek was 700 miles long and all he had with him was a 260 pound sled full of supplies. He had to pull it because an animal would of died of cold. The trek took 39 days and when he got to the arctic station he had about 24 hours to live because his lungs were swelling with frostbite. He was the first American ever to complete this feat. I think that this story is amazing because he had to be very brave to try, because many other people before him had tried but died trying.

  89. CATS ARE IN NEED OF ADOPTION By:Sage Witt
The cats at the humane society are overflowing the walls. It's becoming a major problem. The article shares that it will be giving cats away. Now that was a few weeks ago so their not giving cats away for free anymore. But I think you should still adopt the cats even if their not free. Some people are just leaving cats when they move, assuming that they are an outdoor cat. Most of them end up at an animal shelter. I chose this article because I really feel sorry for cats, and I love animals. What if you got left on the streets and some weird people found you and you were scared out of your mind? What would you feel like if you were a cat and every body else cared about dogs, turtles, or some other animal? The point is, what would you feel like if you were not being adopted and you might die right there in the same place? What would you feel like? . . . . .

  90. AMERICAN FOOD PROBLEMS
Pigs all get raised together. They have their tails chopped off so they don't get sick. Then they eat corn that has a lot of fertilizer on it, then the piggies eat it. At 5 months of age the pigs are killed and turned into bacon or sausage. This is why people become addicted to meat and become fat. This is a very bad problem! I chose this article because a lot of meat is very bad for people and sad for pigs!!!!!

  91. Artifacts Saved With Bombing By Eleanor Faussane
At a place called Lago Seco, millions of artifacts lay. Then, in the amiable silence, a bomb was dropped. The government does this to protect the artifacts from off-roaders, hikers, and bandits. The archeologists tell them if it's safe to drop an explosive. If there is anything in the way, the mission is canceled. I couldn't find why they do this exactly, but my guess is they drop the bombs to destroy the terrain. Bombs have saved this place.

I think that it was wonderful for Nubs to have a home.
